    The new Pets and Home store in Lower Bristol Road has opened up with a pet salon, adoption centre, aquatics centre and veterinary practice. It has taken up one of three units created in part of the former Herman Miller factory, next to Lidl, known now as Metro Retail Park.     North West-based retailer, B&M, has worked with Cheetham Bell on what they believe is the first ever television commercial for dogs. Working closely with dog behavioural specialists B&M aims to stimulates the dog’s senses and captures their attention within the advertisement. To highlight a range of pet products, they’ve hired an actor who can bark (as well as speak), to ensure that the ad communicates directly to its target market. This has included filming with more frames per second, so the dogs don’t see a flickering image, plus high pitched tones and hand signals.   As part of the campaign,…

£12.8m deal for pet supply business

A Devon-based pet supply business with more than 2,800 customers in the UK and across Europe has been acquired in a £12.8m deal. Vital Pet Products has warehouses in Exeter, Bolton, Glasgow, Salisbury and Bristol and distributes 28,000 products to the pet specialist retail sector. It has been bought from the Steuart family by the Subura Group, a business set up to facilities the acquisition. The group brings together some of the industry’s leading experts who already currently operate in the wholesale market. Animal Health Trust launches major fundraising campaign at Crufts 2017

The Animal Health Trust has improved the health of millions of animals for the past 75 years. To mark the anniversary, the charity was at Crufts 2017 to launch a special fundraising campaign to raise £75,000 towards new medical equipment as they look to save the more lives. Schoolchildren from across Staffordshire got up close and personal with exotic pets at the Wild Time Animal Club’s re-launch evening. The event, hosted by Hanley-based pet shop The Unconventional Menagerie showed youngsters how to look after exotic animals like skunks, snakes, and birds.
