The awards honoured local businesses and services for a whole host of achievements including customer services, top employer, best sports club and business of the year. PDSA report finds obesity rise

The latest PDSA Animal Wellbeing Report say four out of five veterinary professionals have seen an increase in pet obesity cases in the last two years. Obesity is the number one concern among vets when it comes to dogs but PDSA found nearly half the people surveyed are not aware it’s a major issue. This is a huge concern given that 80% of vets and vet nurses believe there will be more overweight pets than healthy weight pets in five years’ time. PIF receives accreditation for international trade shows

The Pet Industry Federation has become accredited for the UKTI’s Trade Access Programme. The organisation will work with UKTI to develop and deliver a programme of customer support at international trade shows. TAP provides funding in the form of grants for eligible UK businesses to attend overseas trade shows. The accreditation means that PIF will be able to lead groups at overseas trade shows, and UK pet businesses who wish to get into exports will be able to apply for funding from UKTI through PIF to attend these shows. Data shows decrease in UK pet population

The Pet Food Manufacturers’ Associations has revealed that the UK’s pet populations has reduced by 16% over the last three years in the UK. The annual pet population data released by the PFMA revealed the pet population has fallen by 10.8 million over three years and 2% fewer households have a pet. The 2014-15 figures confirm there are around 58.4m pets in the UK compared to 64.9m in 2013-14 and 69.2m in 2012-13. Pets Corner donate high-vis dog jackets

The Northampton branch of Pets Corner, based on Newport Pagnell Road, recently donated two high visibility dog jackets to a community volunteer group. Hardingstone Street Watch is a community-run volunteer scheme which works in partnership with the police. It consists of a team of six who, whilst wearing high visibility jackets, patrol their local streets picking up litter, talking to residents about any concerns and offering a helping hand where possible. The Pet Show 2015 has announced sponsorship by Hagen, the sole European distributor of NerfDog toys. The company will sponsor the outdoor agility arena – or the Nerf Agility Arena as it will be known during the show.
