Enact acquires pet food retailer and wholesaler

A wholesale supplier of pet food and products, which also operates a chain of shops, has been acquired by Leeds-based SME investor Enact. Nottingham-based Kennelpak, which employs 275 people and has 21 stores, has been bought from its family owners for an undisclosed fee. In its latest financial accounts to March 2017, the profitable business had sales of more than £23m. Established in 1974, Kennelpak sells a selection of pet food, pet accessories and toys amongst other products for dogs, cats, birds, aquatics, reptiles, horses and home farming.  Additional services also include grooming, local training, nutritional advice and licensed medication. New rabbit virus confirmed


Pet owners have been warned about a new rabbit virus after a case was confirmed in Bedford. The disease, affecting rabbits across the country, is Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease variant 2 (RVHD-2) which is fatal in approximately 25 per cent of rabbits that contract it. Rabbits may die suddenly without any symptoms. This month, a four-month-old rabbit that died unexpectedly at home was tested for the new virus and has become the first confirmed case of RVHD-2 in the Bedford area. Gumtree and RSPCA reveals top online searches for dog breeds


French bulldogs are the most searched-for breed for sale online, according to figures from Gumtree and the RSPCA. The new statistics show there were more than 66,000 searches for the fashionable breed in just one month (February 2017) on the popular classified online marketplace. The French bulldog was closely followed by Labradors and pugs in a study which the RSPCA is using to highlight the risks and realities of buying puppies on the internet. The Scottish SPCA thanked Pets at Home Livingston for raising £2526 for Scotland’s abused, abandoned and injured animals. Scotland’s animal welfare charity has been overwhelmed by the generous support of the public. Pinfold Pet Grooming, owned by Clare Banton and Emma Nicholson’s’ Berts Paws and Claws are merging together to form the brand new umbrella.
