We all love pets and all of us who have are expected to take good care of them. Nutrition is extremely important for the proper development of our pets. In their young age, they should be fed in a proper manner in order to give them a healthy life. To achieve this, you can rely on grown-up food recommended by a veterinary physician.

Now that health’s been mentioned, there are numerous ways of treating whatever your pet may have with different types of food, which is also produced by these pet food giants. Needless to say, without them, we would have to worry a great deal more than we currently do. Without further ado, we present the top 5 pet food companies that have kept our pets’ bellies happily full and will continue to do so.

  1. Mars Petcare Inc.

Although most people have barely even heard of Mars Petcare Inc., they have undoubtedly bought either Whiskas, Pedigree, Iams or Royal Canin. These brands all belong to Mars Petcare Inc., including also Sheba, Cesar, Temptations, and Eukanuba. This company even has their own Banfield pet hospitals, that offer premium health service to all sorts of home-kept animals, which is something that other companies simply can’t compete with.

This is the most widespread pet food company across the globe, although they don’t cover South America and Australia. Mars Petcare Inc. has made over £13.8 billion in 2016 only, which simply proves the unquestioned trust of their happy customers. Everyone knows that all cats are addicted to that irresistible Whiskas sauce, and the culinary skill that’s put into making their food is probably beyond this world, based on what our pets show.

  1. Nestlé Purina PetCare

The second largest/best pet food company in the world, Nestle Purina PetCare, makes around £9.4 billion per year, and these numbers keep increasing annually. Nestle covers all habitable continents, and the brands it covers are vast in number.

As a matter of fact, Nestle Purina PetCare has covered the most brands out of all pet food companies. Bakers, Beneful, Beyond, Beggin’, Alp, Chef Michael’s Canine Creations, Busy, Felix, Cat Chow, Fancy Feast, Friskies, Gourmet, Frosty Paws, Deli-cat, Mighty Dog, Just Right, Moist & Meaty, Kit & Kaboodle, Dog Chow, Muse, Zuke’s, Purina, Purina ONE, Purina Pro Plan, Second Nataure, Pro Plan Veterinary Diets and T-Bonz and Waggin’ Train are all covered by this company.

  1. Big Heart Pet Brands

Although Nestle and Mars are way bigger than Big Heart, this company claims first place when it comes to the most popular dog snacks, and second when dry cat food is in question. Although they are only based in North America, they gain more than enough revenue and popularity to make the prized third place on this list.

Big Heart is responsible for numerous brands, including Milk-Bone, Meow Mix, Kibbles‘n’ Bits, Pup-Peroni, 9Lives, Milo’s Kitchen, Natural Balance, Gravy Train, Jerky Treats, Nature’s Recipe, Snausages, Canine Carry Outs, Alley Cat, Meaty Bone and Pounce. However, unlike the previous two companies, Big Heart makes only £1.8 billion per year.

  1. Hill’s Pet Nutrition

Hill’s Pet Nutrition places over 310 products actively on the market. It’s spread throughout 80 sovereign countries, and although its brands aren’t really famous, they make way more than most pet food companies. In 2013, this company introduced some of the best weight loss products on the pet food market, which earned it quite some fame and made it greatly increase in ranking.

Its brands are only the following four: Healthy Advantage, Prescription Diet, Ideal Balance and Science Diet. Even so, it manages to make as much as £1.38 billion on a yearly basis.

  1. Blue Buffalo

With only 6% of the North American market under its influence, it is no wonder that this is the last pet food company on the list. Blue Buffalo makes approximately £9 billion per year, and the exports that it ships to Japan and Canada have a great influence on their earnings.

Blue Buffalo produces somewhat popular brands, such as Freedom, Basics, Life Protection Formula, Wilderness and Natural Veterinary Diet.

  1. Chris Harris says:

When talking about healthy products for dogs, I don’t see how being the biggest automatically qualifies a company to be in that category, or is this just looking for advertising revenue. The unclear labelling and unspecified artificial preservatives in some of those companies’ brands precludes them from being touted as healthy.
